1st Guards Field Artillery Regiment Sword -  "I. Garde-Feldartillerie-Regiment". This curved sword features a 23 mm wide x 815 mm long steel blade, with a dull edge and semi-sharp tip, the blade itself exhibiting beautiful cross graining and light contact, full-length fuller on both sides, unmarked ricasso, ornate engraving on the blade, one side illustrating an eagle with raised wings on top of crossed cannons plus a picklehaube above, a bridled horse's head, interlaced with roses, leafing and stems. with the inscription "I. Garde Feld Artill Regt." in reverse type on a steel blue background in the centre, the opposite side illustrating crossed sword and trumpet over a box and topped by a picklehaube, crossed swords over a wreath of oak leaves topped by a picklehaube, interlaced with roses, leafing and stems, with five cavalrymen on horseback, along with five soldiers accompanying a cannon and wagon in reverse on a steel blue background in the centre, the blade's spine with ornate leafing. Heavy nickel-plated steel crossguard with quillon, magnetic, black synthetic plates with raised ribbed grip embedded onto either side of the handle and held in place via a long central pin that passes through the supporting guard, that runs from the crossguard and wraps around the pommel, joining on to the opposite end of the crossguard, slotted, forming the handle. It weighs 617 grams and measures 945 mm in length overall, exhibiting surface wear and rust on the handle, better than very fine. The scabbard has a durable black painted metal body, magnetic, with flattened u-shaped finial and locket, suspension ring and bracket protruding from the wrap-around loop, weighing 477 grams and measuring 32 mm x 835 mm, minor dent on one side, scattered paint chipping, with light contact. A terrific WWI collectible, in better than very fine condition.
