Silver, obverse with three right-facing stylized eagles at the left, mountains in the background, inscribed "5a DIVISIONE ALPINA 'VAL PVSTERIA" above and "SV TVTTI I CONFINI DELL'IMPERO" to the right, reverse with a map of Ethiopia and listing the unit's eight battle honours, marked "800" (silver) and engraver marked "JOHNSON", 32 mm, very light contact, extremely fine. Footnote: The 5th Alpini Division Pusteria was a light Infantry division of the Italian Army, specializing in Mountain Combat. The Alpini are a mountain infantry corps of the Italian Army, formed in 1935, that distinguished itself in combat during both the First and Second World Wars. The 5 Alpini Division Pusteria was dispatched in 1935 to Eritrea, where it participated in the Italian attack on Abyssinia. The division played a primary role in the Battle of Amba Aradam and the Battle of Maychew.
