A 1940 Kriegsmarine Pea Coat & Trousers
Contains two pieces: pea coat and pants. The exterior of the pea coat is fabricated from a black wool, the collar adorned with enlisted man's collar tabs in blue wool, identifying the wearer as a Seaman. There is a Kriegsmarine eagle insignia in yellow embroidery on a black wool base sewn in place on the right breast. The front has two pockets, one on either side at the waist, designed with flaps and are lined in black rayon. In addition, there are five large buttons and five reinforced button holes on the right side, facing five reinforced button holes and five large buttons on the left side, and when joined together, they create a double-breasted look. Each of the buttons are brass, bearing a fouled anchor within a circular rope border, marked "KRIEGSMARINE" and maker marked "M" in an angled square flanked by "19" on the left and "40" on the right, which is the date, "1940". There is an additional reinforced button hole on both collars, with a large button on the underside of the collar on both sides, each of the buttons in brass and similarly marked as those previously mentioned. The inside is lined in black wool, with a pocket on each breast, each designed without flaps and lined in black rayon. The sleeves are lined in a grayish-beige rayon, the left sleeve stamped in black ink with the vertically listed numbers "39, 94, 58". In addition, there is a black cotton strap sewn in place in the collar for hanging the coat on a hook, the body of the coat itself marked in white ink "3-5-29" below the strap. The coat measures 400 mm across the shoulders x 580 in length. The pants are fabricated from the same black wool as that used in the pea coat. The front has a large drop down flap, with four reinforced button holes, that fasten to the four black magnetic metal buttons at the waist, two on either side of the opening, each of which is marked "ANRIP", complemented by underlying flaps, the right side flap with two stacked black magnetic buttons facing two stacked reinforced button holes on the left side flap. There are angled side entry pockets on either side at the front, both of which are lined in off-white canvas. On either side at the rear waist, there are steel blue magnetic metal buckles with black wool adjustable length straps, ensuring a snug fit at the waist. Inside, the waist is lined with a 43 mm wide strip of off-white canvas, the left side of which is marked in black ink with multiple stampings, including a large "3-5-29", "78" above "76", and "ERES K.G." above "HAMBURG", with an additional patch of reinforced off-white canvas lining in the crotch. The pants measure 370 mm in width x 1,020 mm in length. Unworn and mint.
