A Belgian City of Gent (Ghent) Medal for the Veterans of 1914-1918 - Bronze, obverse illustrating an Adrian helmet, with emanating rays in the background, inscribed "1914-1918" inside an open-ended wreath of laurel leaves, reverse inscribed "DE STAD GENT UIT ERKENTELIKJHEID AAN HAAR ROEMRIJKE ZONEN 1914-1918" (The City of Gent (Ghent) with Gratitude to Her Glorious Sons 1914-1918), dated "15.XI.1964" (November 15, 1964) and maker marked "FIBRU" (Fibru of Brussels) below, 30 mm, original ribbon, light contact and spotting, near extremely fine. Footnote: The medal was instituted in 1964, fifty years after the outbreak of the First World War and presented to Ghent’s veterans on November 15th, the first Sunday after Armistice Day.
