A Croatian Silver Merit Medal Document to Oberjäger Josef Lemmen
Measuring 209x227mm, extremely fine condition with minimal creasing. The certificate states that Oberjäger (Senior Rifleman) Josef Lemmen of the 13th Company of Mountain Troop Regiment 738 was awarded the Small Silver Merit Medal on May 30, 1944. The document itself is dated to August 1, 1944 and signed in pencil by Oberst (Colonel) and Leader of the 188th Mountain Troop Division, Hubert Lamey (1896–1981), a recipient of the Knight’s Cross. According to the reason for the award Lemmen especially distinguished himself on May 29, 1943 during the company’s attack on a place called Dragos Sedlo, 2 kms southeast of Tjentište (southern Croatia). Lemmen’s fighting spirit in the most difficult of terrain inspired the troops to disregard their state of fatigue. That way Lemmen had a crucial stake in the successful raid on the partisan camp.
