A First War Austrian Officer's Cap to Oberstleutnant Ivan Čačić-Šarić - Included are three pieces: Officer's cap, rain cover and carrying case. The Czech-made Officer's cap exterior has a black brushed wool covering its reinforced pressed fabric frame, three rows of intricately embroidered strips fabricated from gold-coloured bullion wire sewn at the top and encompassing the cap, strip of black patent leather sewn along the bottom edge encompassing the cap, flat oval vulcanfibre top with a raised outer lip, 67.5 mm x 94 mm bronze gilt Austrian coat-of-arms affixed to the front with the initials "FJI" (Franz Joseph I, 1849-1916) on the arms' shield, two rows of angled silver bullion wire separated by a row of black threading resting upon a vulcanfibre visor, 18.5 mm wide raised band of gold-coloured bullion wire running along the front edge of the visor, a narrow strip of black patent leather sewn along the open edge and encompassing the cap, the underside of the visor in brown leather. Interior comes with a 46 mm wide brown leather sweatband, the ends sewn together at the rear, with a circular black "58" size sticker affixed to the right side, lined in a faded rose silk, thin leather chinstrap with a black finished upper and is original, marked with the leather manufacturer's stamp on the reverse, the stamp clearly illustrating the left-facing profile of Napoleon III with references to Paris and New York, chinstrap has adjustable brass buckles on either side and passes through a reinforced faded rose silk loop in the dome, the loop flanked by the maker mark "E.H. Schnaab Eisengasse No. 16 PRAG." (Prague) in a gold-coloured ink stamp at the rear, with a paper name plate pasted in place inscribed "Oberstleutnant Ivan Čačić-Šarić" at the front. It measures 150 mm x 248 mm x 127 mm in height, the exterior exhibiting light crazing in the vulcanfibre pieces, wear on the patent leather strip along the open edge, evidence of mothing in the wool at the rear, and minor separation of the leather sweatband from the body of the cap on the inside where it butts the end of the visor. Accompanied by its weather-resistant, lacquered cloth rain cover with adjustable drawstring, which fits the cap perfectly, highlighted by intact stitching along the seams, the rain cover measuring 153 mm x 246 mm x 110 mm in height. Both the cap and rain cover are housed in their customized, hardshelled, flat topped leather carrying case, complete with a metal key-oriented lock on one side, the interior lined in blue cotton, the case missing its bottom, along with the key, exhibiting wear in the leather, the interior exhibiting fading near the opening but remaining intact, the carrying case measuring 195 mm x 280 mm x 150 mm in height. The cap is in original state, unaltered, and aside from the aforementioned minor imperfections, remains in very fine condition.    Footnote: Colonel (Oberst) Ivan Čačić-Šarić received his Noble title on Dec 11, 1916: "Edler von Drinaboj".
