A First War Group to 2nd Lieutenant Percy W. Waghorn, 1st (Royal) Dragoons/8th Battalion London Regiment KIA
1914 Star (971 Cpl P. W. WAGHORN. 1/DNS.); British War Medal (2.LIEUT. P.W. WAGHORN.); Victory Medal (2.LIEUT. P.W. WAGHORN.); and Memorial Plaque (PERCY WILLIAM WAGHORN). Naming is officially impressed on the trio, the Memorial Plaque in raised lettering. Un-mounted, original ribbons, dark patina on the BWM, residue in the recessed areas of the Star from cleaning, tape residue evident on the reverse of the MP from previous board mounting, very fine. Accompanied by a copy of his Index Card (indicating he was entitled to all three medals), along with assorted research papers. Footnote: Percy William Waghorn was born in 1889, the son of of Henry George Waghorn and M. J. Waghorn, of 192, St. Paul's Rd., Canonbury, London. He was originally a Corporal (971) in the 1st (Royal) Dragoons, later becoming a Sergeant, before being transferred and promoted to 2nd Lieutenant with the 8th Battalion London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers). Waghorn was Killed in Action on October 7, 1916, at the age of 27 and is buried in Grevillers British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France, Grave Reference: XVIII. D. 4.
