1914-15 Star (53183 Pte S. HIRST. 18/CAN:INF:); British War Medal (53183 PTE. S. HIRST. 18-CAN.INF.); and Victory Medal (53183 PTE. S. HIRST. 18-CAN.INF.). Naming is officially impressed. Un-mounted, original ribbons, light contact, surface wear on the edges of the latter two, cleaned, very fine. Accompanied by a copy of his Attestation Paper. Footnote: Stanley Hirst was born on December 24, 1893 in Southampton, England. He signed his Attestation Paper with the 18th Infantry Battalion "Western Ontario Regiment", on October 26, 1914, in London, Ontario, at the age of 21, naming his next-of-kin as his father, William Hirst, stating that he had previous military service with the 7th Regiment (Artillery) and three years with the 25th Elgin Infantry in St. Thomas, that he was not married and that his trade was that of Labourer. The Battalion was raised and mobilized in London, Ontario under the authority of G.O. 36, March 15, 1915. The Battalion sailed April 18, 1915 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel E.S. Wigle, with a strength of 36 officers and 1,081 other ranks and served in France and Belgium with the 4th Infantry Brigade, 2nd Canadian Division. It is worthy to note, that at the top of the second page of his Attestation Paper, another solider's name has been crossed out and replaced with Hirst's, however the previous soldier's information remains on the page, including his age of 38.
