CONWAY. R.A.F.). Naming is officially impressed. Unmounted, original ribbons, with their original envelopes, in their original labelled cardboard boxes of issue, mint. Accompanied by four pages of his Service Records from the National Archives. Footnote: Frankish Vincent Conway was born on September 11, 1891 at Chelsea, London, England. He enlisted with the Royal Naval Air Service on November 25, 1914, at the age of 23. He listed his next-of-kin as his wife, Dorothy May of Balham, S.W. London and stated his occupation as that of Tinman/Preserver (Canner). Throughout the war, he served at Pembroke III, President II (Dunkirk Wing No. 1, Somme, No. 4 Wing) and Daedalus (Dunkirk), achieving the ranks of Air Mechanic, Grade II (November 14, 1914), Acting Air Mechanic Grade I (March 7, 1916), Air Mechanic Grade I (April 30, 1917), Leading Mechanic (November 1, 1917), before being promoted to Sergeant on July 1, 1918 and later classified as a Sergeant Fitter (AE) [Aero Engine]. He is credited with having served in the French theatre on four occasions (December 23, 1914 to July 7, 1915, August 14, 1915 to September 22, 1915, September 24, 1915 to October 23, 1916, November 25, 1916 to December 3, 1918). The Royal Naval Air Service merged with the British Army's Royal Flying Corps, forming the Royal Air Force on April 1, 1918. After the war, Conway was with 117, 141 and 100 Squadrons and had his engagement extended for three years on March 4, 1919. He was awarded a Good Conduct Badge on August 1st. He completed a course on the installation of Rolls Royce engines on December 5, 1920 and received his BWM and VM the following year, on December 15, 1921. Conway was transferred to the Royal Air Force Reserve on March 3, 1922 and discharged eight months later, on November 22nd.
