A First War Medal Group to Lieutenant (Gunner) Adams; Royal Navy - 1914-15 Star (GNR. W.R. ADAMS, R.N.); British War Medal (GNR. W.R. ADAMS. R.N.); and Victory Medal (GNR. W.R. ADAMS. R.N.). Naming is officially impressed. Court-mounted, edge nicks on the latter two, light contact, near extremely fine. Also included is a duotang folder with his military biography and twelve black and white ship photographs. Footnote: William Robert Adams was born on October 1, 1879 and achieved the rank of Gunner (Torpedo) on April 2, 1912. Pre-War, he served aboard the Battleship H.M.S. Implacable, beginning on December 13, 1912 and then was transferred to the Destroyer H.M.S. Crusader, on November 25, 1913, his service carrying him into the war years. During the First World War, Adams was posted to the Battleship H.M.S. Colossus, on February 25, 1915, which was in the 4th Battleship Squadron at the Battle of Jutland, from May 31 to June 1, 1916. On December 9, 1916, he joined the Destroyer H.M.S. Obedient, which saw service with the Grand Fleet. His war service concluded with a one year stint with the Submarine Depot Ship H.M.S. Arrogant, effective July 16, 1918. Post-War, he served aboard a series of vessels, including: the Battleship H.M.S. Emperor of India (effective late July 1919); the Destroyer H.M.S. Nimrod (effective January 1, 1921, where he became a Commissioned Gunner (Torpedo) on April 2, 1922); the Cruiser H.M.S. Durban (effective January 7, 1923); the Cruiser Depot Ship H.M.S. Dido (effective January 7, 1926); the Destroyer Leader H.M.S. Spencer for Destroyers in Reserve (effective February 1, 1926); and the Destroyer Leader H.M.S. Seymour (effective October 7, 1927), before being assigned to the Admiralty Yacht H.M.S. Enchantress "in Reserve" (effective May 7, 1928, "for care and maintenance duties"). Adams retired in the rank of Lieutenant (Retired) on May 31, 1929, at the age of 49. After a long retirement, he passed away on March 6, 1956, at the age of 76
