A First War Medal Pair to the Canadian Field Artillery - British War Medal (248593 GNR. J. TURNER. C.F.A.); and Victory Medal (248593 GNR. J. TURNER. C.F.A.). Naming is officially impressed. Dark patina on the BWM, original ribbons, extremely fine. Medals are pinned together via the veteran's Army Class "C" Badge (silver with red and white enamels, maker marked "CARON BROS, MONTREAL 1919" and numbered "84378" on the reverse, 26.5 mm x 30 mm, horizontal pinback).Footnote: John Turner was born on December 4, 1883 in Aberdeen, Scotland. He signed his Attestation Paper as a Gunner (248593) with the Howitzer Ammunition Column, Canadian Field Artillery, on October 23, 1916 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, at the age of 32, naming his next-of-kin as his mother, Mary Turner of Aberdeen, stating that he had no previous military service, that he was not married and that his trade was that of Lithographer. Turner survived the war. The Army Class "C" Badge had three criteria: 1. Members of the CEF not eligible for Class A or B who served with pay for an aggregate period not less than three months, and had been retired or honourably discharged, including those who suffered a disability due to military service and had been discharged solely due to the disability before they served three months; 2. Members of the Active Militia of Canada who, had they remained on duty until the completion of the arrangements authorized by P.C. 1569, would have become members of the CEF, provided they served with pay for an aggregate period not less than three months and had been retired or honourably discharged, including those who suffered a disability due to military service, and been discharged solely due to the disability before they served three months; and 3. Members of the Imperial Forces not eligible for Class A or B, who resided in Canada on August 4, 1914, and who returned to reside in Canada, subject to the same conditions as in (ii).
