A First War Pair t the 54th Canadian Infantry; DOW at Passchendaele -  British War Medal (757150 PTE. A.H. ODER. 54-CAN.INF.); and Victory Medal (757150 PTE. A.H. ODER. 54-CAN.INF.). Naming is officially impressed. Un-mounted, original ribbons, each with a pinback, dark patina on the BWM, contact marks, better than very fine.Footnote: Albert Hugo Oder was born on September 3, 1897 in Hamilton, Ontario, the son of of Gustave Oder and Jenny Oder. He was a resident of Hamilton when he signed his Attestation Paper as a Private (757150) with the 120th Infantry Battalion "13th Royal Regiment/Hamilton Battalion", on November 23, 1915 in Hamilton, at the age of 18, naming his next-of-kin as his father, Gustave Oder, stating that he had no previous military service, that he was not married (although records indicate that he was married to Ella McLoughlin (formerly Oder), of Hamilton), and that his trade was that of Glass Blower. In England, he was transferred to the Depot Regiment, Canadian Mounted Rifles on December 7, 1916, then later transferred as a reinforcement to the 54th Infantry Battalion "Kootenay Battalion". Private Albert Hugo Oder was with the 54th Infantry Battalion, likely at Passchendaele during the Third Battle of Ypres, when he died from his wounds, on November 13, 1917, at the age of 20. He is remembered with honour on the Menin Gate (Ypres) Memorial, Ypres, Belgium, Grave Reference: Panel 18-24-26-30 and is is commemorated on page 303 of the First World War Book of Remembrance.
