What's a max bid?

Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you're willing to pay for an item.

Your entered maximum bid will not be disclosed to the seller or other auction participants at any point.

Max bidding example:

If the current auction price is $100 dollars and you place a maximum bid of $120 dollars, the system will bid $101 dollars on your behalf.

If no other participant places a bid, you win that auction lot for $101 dollars.

If another auction participant places a bid of $110 dollars, the system will subsequently place a bid of $111 dollars on your behalf. The system will continue to bid in $1.00 dollar increments until your maximum bid of $120 dollars is exceeded.

If another auction participant places a bid for $125 dollars, the auction lot price will display $121 dollars having exceeded your previously submitted maximum bid by $1.00 dollar.

A First War Pair to the Royal Field Artillery - British War Medal (2. LIEUT. E.J.FORBES.); and Victory Medal (2. LIEUT. E.J. FORBES.). Naming is officially impressed. Court mounted, cleaned, light contact, extremely fine. Accompanied by nineteen pages containing copies of his Royal Horse Artillery Attestation Paper, No. 4 Cadet School at Brighton Admission Form, Service Records, Medical Records, Protection Certificate - Officer (dated September 18, 1919), Letter From the Army Relinquishing Forbesof his Commission (dated December 2, 1920), Index Card (acknowledging his eligibility for the 1914-15 Star, BWM and VM) and five pages from the London Gazette. Footnote: Edward John Forbes was born on June 16, 1892 at New Monkland, Lanarkshire. He was a student at the University of Glasgow studying Latin, earning an Honours Degree in same and was a Munitions Worker before the Great War began. He enlisted as a Gunner (193199) in the Royal Horse Artillery at Hamilton, Scotland on January 22, 1917, stating the he had no previous military service and that he was single. Three days later, on the 25th, he was assigned as a Gunner to No. 6 Depot, Royal Horse Artillery and saw a transfer on February 3, 1917 to 6B Brigade, Royal Horse Artillery. The Army saw promise in young Forbes and posted him to No. 4 Cadet School at Brighton on June 20, 1917 and upon successful completion of his course, transferred him later that year to the 2nd Royal Artillery Cadet School at Exeter on November 26th. He was discharged to commission on February 1, 1918, becoming a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery, Special Reserve the following day (February 2, 1918; London Gazette 1885, February 9, 1918) and served overseas in France with the 12th (Eastern) Divisional Ammunition Column, Royal Field Artillery. In a confidential report, dated January 16, 1919, the following remarks were made about Forbes: "Ability and professional knowledge: Good; Power to maintain discipline: Fairly Good; Power of leadership: Good; Knowledge capacity and tact for training: Good; Other special military qualifications: Very good lecturer; Foreign languages: Greek and Latin". He was named a Temporary Lieutenant on June 3, 1918 (London Gazette 7729, July 2, 1918). Post-war, he was promoted to Lieutenant on August 2, 1919 (London Gazette 10742, August 25, 1919) and was demobilized the following month with the same rank on September 20th. Forbes relinquished his commission "on account of ill health contracted on active service" and retained the rank of Lieutenant on February 11, 1919 (London Gazette 2055, February 10, 1919). It was confirmed in a letter from the Army dated December 12, 1920 that it had actually taken effect as of April 1, 1920. He went to live with his next-of-kin, his aunt, Mrs. John McDonald of Longriggend upon demobilization on September 20, 1919 and died in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1933, at the age of 41. In addition to the BWM and VM, he was awarded the 1914-15 Star, which is not included here. He was also awarded the War Badge, number B143730.
