A First War Saskatchewan Group to the Lee Brothers; KIA 1918 - Private Roy Ellis Lee, KIA: British War Medal (267902 PTE. R.E. LEE. 5-CAN.INF.); and Victory Medal (267902 PTE. R.E. LEE. 5-CAN.INF.). Naming is officially impressed. Un-mounted, dark patina on the BWM, very light contact. Accompanied by his Memorial Plaque (ROY ELLIS LEE), the naming in raised lettering; and his Memorial Cross, George V (267902 Pte. R.F. LEE), the naming engraved, the MC in its hardshelled case of issue, case with a scuffed exterior. Acting Lance Corporal Eli Ross Lee: British War Medal (267634 A.L. CPL. E.R. LEE. 5-CAN.INF.); and Victory Medal (267634 A.L. CPL. E.R. LEE. 5-CAN.INF.). Naming is officially impressed. Un-mounted, dark patina on the BWM, two oxidation spots on the obverse of the VM, light contact. Near extremely fine.  Footnote: Eli Ross Lee was born on November 10, 1895 in Carnduff, Saskatchewan, the son William Lee and Mary Ellen Lee. He was a resident of Watrous, Saskatchewan when he signed his Attestation Paper as a Private (267634) with the 214th Infantry Battalion "Saskatchewan Battalion", in Watrous, on March 29, 1916, at the age of 20, naming his next-of-kin as his father, William Lee of Watrous, stating that he had no previous military service, that he was not married and that his trade was that of Clerk. His older brother, Roy Ellis Lee was born on January 5, 1894 in Carnduff. He was also a resident of Watrous, when he signed his Attestation Paper as a Private (267902) with the 214th Infantry Battalion "Saskatchewan Battalion" in Watrous four weeks later, on April 26, 1916, at the age of 22, naming his next-of-kin as his father, William Lee of Watrous, stating that he had no previous military service, that he was not married and that his trade was that of Machine Wiper. The 214th Infantry Battalion was raised in Saskatchewan with mobilization headquarters at Wadena under the authority of G.O. 69, July 15, 1916. The Battalion sailed April 18, 1917 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel J.H. Hearn with a strength of 20 officers and 595 other ranks. In England, the Battalion was absorbed into the 15th Reserve Battalion. Both brothers were later transferred to the 5th Infantry Battalion "Western Canadian Cavalry". Older brother Roy Ellis Lee was Killed in Action on September 29, 1918, at the age of 24 and is buried in Haynecourt British Cemetery,  Nord, France, Grave Reference: II. A. 26. Haynecourt is a village in the Department of the Nord approximately six kilometres north-west of Cambrai and one kilometre north of the main Arras to Cambrai road. Private Roy Ellis Lee is commemorated on page 447 of the First World War Book of Remembrance. His younger brother, Private Eli Ross Lee advanced to the rank of Acting Lance Corporal with the 5th Infantry Battalion and survived the war.
