What's a max bid?

A German Army Officer's "Dove Tail" Sword by Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co., Solingen

Measuring 955 mm with the scabbard on, this sword features an 810 mm long, slightly-curved, fullered, nickel-plated steel blade, magnetic, with a blade spine and a single dull edge, the blade remaining bright and crisp, and having a semi-sharp tip. The blade's ricasso is maker marked "WKC" (Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co., Solingen) with the company's knight emblem, while the blade itself retains its crossgraining, exhibiting the usual in and out runner marks, common to extraction and return to the scabbard, natural shine, with a few transverse scratches and scattered edge nicks, very fine. Brown leather buffer pad has hardened with cracking evident at one end. Heavy brass gilt steel crossguard with quillon, finely-detailed Army eagle with its talons clenching a wreathed swastika insignia on the crossguard, the reverse of the crossguard bearing a blank shield surrounded by an ornate leafed and floral trim, the gilt ferrule illustrating a repeating oak leaf and acorn pattern. Black celluloid plates with eleven rows of gold-coloured springy wire in the recesses of the ribbed grip, the plates embedded onto either side of the handle and held in place via a long central pin that passes through the supporting guard, running from the crossguard and wrapping around the pommel, joining on to the opposite end of the crossguard, forming the handle. The guard, pommel and handle are adorned with a laurel leaves, oak leaves and acorn motif. The sword measures 932 mm in length and weighs 436 grams overall, exhibiting scattered gilt wear and light contact, with slight movement in the strands of the springy wire. The scabbard has a durable re-painted black metal body, magnetic, with flattened u-shaped finial and locket, suspension ring and bracket protruding from the wrap-around loop, the locket held firmly in place via two screws, measuring 830 mm in length and weighing 401 grams, exhibiting scattered chipping and crazing in the paint on the re-painted black metal body, contact marks on the finial and surface rust on the mouth the throat.
