What's a max bid?

Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you're willing to pay for an item.

Your entered maximum bid will not be disclosed to the seller or other auction participants at any point.

Max bidding example:

If the current auction price is $100 dollars and you place a maximum bid of $120 dollars, the system will bid $101 dollars on your behalf.

If no other participant places a bid, you win that auction lot for $101 dollars.

If another auction participant places a bid of $110 dollars, the system will subsequently place a bid of $111 dollars on your behalf. The system will continue to bid in $1.00 dollar increments until your maximum bid of $120 dollars is exceeded.

If another auction participant places a bid for $125 dollars, the auction lot price will display $121 dollars having exceeded your previously submitted maximum bid by $1.00 dollar.

A German Fire Police Visor Cap; Wartime Re-Badged

This exterior of the cap is fabricated from a navy blue wool, incorporating a 40 mm wide band in black velvet and a traditional high peak, with magenta piping along the top edge and flanking either side of the band. The cap was previously designed for an NCO of the Luftwaffe Civil Fire Brigade and has been re-badged. It is decorated with a tri-colour cockade on the peak, the cockade with a painted black base incorporating a silvered ring and red felt centre, replacing the original spread-winged eagle, as evidenced by the two holes and outline of the original cap badge. The band below is fronted by a Fire Police eagle insignia, replacing the original Luftwaffe Civil Employee insignia, as evidenced by the outline of the very wide original badge. Three-piece black leather chin strap rests upon the visor housing length adjustment buckles on either side, the straps slotted and wrapped around black-finished magnetic metal buttons on either side. The vulcanfibre visor has a smooth black patent leather-look upper and has a butterscotch-coloured synthetic underside. The inside has a light tan sweatband that is perforated along the front edge with five tiny rows of forty ventilation holes each, the ends of the sweatband pinned together at the rear. The dome itself has a tan rayon liner, with a clear moisture shield over the black inked manufacturer's stamp inscribed "Deutsche Wertarbeit / Wilhelm Leunig / Hannover, Herschelstr.1A", with the company's cap over "WL" insignia and size marked "56". Two additional stamps are positioned nearby: a Rethen Fire Department oval stamp in blue ink and a retailer's stamp in black ink inscribed "Gasthaus zum Bahnhof / Wilhelm Horre / Rethen/Leine Telefon 188", with a large "18R" in black marker to the upper left of the moisture shield. The cap measures 240 mm x 260 mm x 130 mm in height overall, exhibiting light crazing on the leather chin strap and vulcanfibre visor, the latter with edge wear evident at the front, light soiling and wear on the sweatband and the tan rayon lining in the dome from active use, the exterior free of mothing. As worn, better than very fine. (C:152)
