A Kriegsmarine High Seas Fleet Badge by Schwerin of Berlin
A fine early quality textbook example of a “Flottenkriegsabzeichen”; gilded and silvered tombac oval wreath of oak leaves with a national eagle perched on the top of the badge clutching a swastika and with ribbons tied on the bottom, with a frontal view of a German battleship cutting through the waves; plain reverse; with a vertical slender banjo style pinback, a barrel hinge, and a flat wire catch; maker marked “Fec. Adolf Bock” and “Ausf. Schwerin, Berlin” on the reverse; measuring 56.90 mm x 43.79 mm; weighing 36.4 grams; with the original gilding well preserved, but with scattered loss to the silvering on the center ship due to age and wear; of note is some excess metal to the reverse, possibly from previous period mounting; in overall very fine condition.
