A M40 Single Decal Wehrmacht Heer (Army) Stahlhelm with Bread Bag Strap by Quist
A fine example of a one-decal Wehrmacht Heer (Army) steel helmet, crafted out of a sheet of molybdenum steel (magnetic) with its original apple-green paint on the interior and exterior of the helmet. It features stamped air vents and a rolled/crimped rim along the entire helmet, making this a signature M40 style helmet. The interior features an eight panel brown leather liner, each with five stamped ventilation holes, and an additional hole at the top for the drawstring to be fed through. The drawstring is constructed of embroidered white string, and appears to not be original to the helmet. The chin strap is constructed of chocolate brown leather, with its original metal hardware, and is securely fastened to the metal frame within the helmet. The underside of the skirt is stamped “DN 193” (indicating German manufacture), and is stamped “Q54” for “Quist” on the left side of the interior. This helmet also features an added bread bag strap, that is currently tightly wrapped around the exterior of the helmet. It consists of a 28 mm wide olive-green cotton woven fabric, with black leather tabs on both ends, and metal clips (magnetic) on both ends. The helmet measures 283 mm x 288 mm. The exterior apple-green paint is very well preserved with obvious, yet subtle, signs of wear throughout. The Wehrmacht helmet decal on the left side of the helmet is approximately 40% intact - has rubbed off completely where the bread bag strap comes in contact with the helmet. The interior paint of the helmet is also well preserved, with only light signs of corrosion. The liner is overall well preserved, but with obvious discolouration and slight rips and tears from wear. Overall, this helmet is in better than very fine condition.
