First postcard illustrates an Italian soldier and a German soldier fighting side-by-side, standing upon a pile of rubble, the Italian soldier with a knife in his teeth and holding a flag bearing a skull with crossed bones and inscribed "DESPERATA" in his left hand, the German soldier with a knife in his right hand, soldiers in the background with the flags of Italy, Finland, Germany, Estonia, Czechoslovakia, Japan and Spain among others visible, with the artist's signature "boccasile" (Gino Boccasile: July 14, 1901 - May 10, 1952) at the lower left, reverse inscribed "DOPOLAVORO FORZE ARMATE" (Dopolavoro Armed Forces) beside the Fascist National Party (PNF) insignia, marked "CARTOLINA POSTALE PER LE FORZE ARMATE" (Armed Forces Postcard) flanked by a shield bearing the Italian coat-of-arms on the left side and a shield inscribed "ESENTE DA TASSA PER L'ITALIA E SUE COLONIE" (Free of Charge Italy and Its Colonies) on the right side, printer marked "S.A.G.A. ROMA", unused without inscriptions, 105 mm x 148 mm. Second postcard illustrates a standing Italian soldier bearing a rifle, with the the bodies of multiple dead Italian soldiers at his feet around him, the looming ghost of a large Italian soldier behind him, a tattered Italian flag flying from a flagpole affixed to a rocky base, the British Union Jack taken down from the pole and draped over the rocky base, a mountain in the distance, likely illustrating the aftermath of the Battle of Amba Allagi in Ethiopia in May 1941, as part of the East Africa Campaign and calling for revenge against the British takeover of Italian East Africa, inscribed "RITORNEREMO!" (We Will Return!), with the exclamation mark obscuring the artist's signature, reverse with a handwritten inscription in black ink and dated October 25, 1942, large "R" in red china marker, marked "PARTITO NAZIONALE FASCISTA / DIRETTORIO NAZIONALE / UFFICIO COMBATTENTI / A CURA DEL SERVIZIO FORZE ARMATE DELL'O. N. D." (National Fascist Party / National Directory / Soldier's Office / By the Armed Forces Service National Recreational Club) with the Fascist National Party (PNF) insignia at the left and the National Recreational Club (OND) insignia at the right, marked "CARTOLINA POSTALE PER LE FORZE ARMATE" (Armed Forces Postcard) flanked by a shield bearing the Italian coat-of-arms on the left side and a shield inscribed "ESENTE DA TASSA PER L'ITALIA E SUE COLONIE" (Free of Charge Italy and Its Colonies) on the right side, printer marked "Arti Grafiche V. E. BOERI - VIa Corridoni 7 - Roma", postmarked "POSTA MILITARE" (Military Post) and dated October 27, 1942, 103 mm x 148 mm. Both postcards are printed in four-colour inks on the obverse and black inks on the reverse, on a card stock, crease evident at the bottom right of the first postcard, near extremely fine.
