Germany. A Rare 1939-40 German Commemorative War Medal
Medal is die struck in bronzed iron (magnetic), 32.14mm, it weighs 14.4 grams, in mint condition, unmarked, with original ribbon. Very rare. Footnote: In 1971-72, in Frankfurt, a local coin/medal dealer/collector, his last name is Granass, bought a small quantity of these medals (20-30 pcs) directly from a director, Mr. Ferdinand Wiedmann; at the time factory was being closed down, and during a clean-up, a small batch of these medals was discovered. Mr. Granass was at the time selling his goods at the antique market in Frankfurt (the antique market was located directly opposite the Wiedmann factory). During mid 1970’s English collector P.J. bought one of these medals from Mr. Granass, and eventually sold the medal to a well-known collector-dealer Jimmie "the Greek", who sold this medal to eMedals about 15 years ago.
