A WWI ID Tag to the Canadian Motorized Machine Gun Brigade

A WWI Identification Tag to the Canadian Motorized Machine Gun Brigade - Identification Tag: silver, engraved in running script "D. Hodgson / 904627 / E. Bty / 2nd CMMG. Bde" on the obverse, marked "EPNS" on the reverse, 27 mm x 45.5 mm, on a full-length wrist chain with catch, 8.2 mm x 27.8 mm bronze bullet engraved in running script "Le Quesnal / 9th August 1918" suspended from the catch, contact marks and surface wear, better than very fine.   Footnote: Dudley Hodgson was born on February 22, 1897 in Huelva, Spain. He signed his Attestation Paper as a Private (904627) with the 194th Infantry Battalion "Edmonton Highlanders", on March 11, 1916, in Edmonton, Alberta, naming his next-of-kin as his mother, Helena Hodgson of Edmonton, stating that he had no previous military service, that he was not married and that his trade was that of Biscuit Baker. The Battalion was raised in Edmonton and District with mobilization headquarters at Edmonton under the authority of G.O. 69, July 15, 1916. The Battalion sailed November 14, 1916 aboard the S.S. Olympic, under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel W.C. Craig with a strength of 31 officers and 906 other ranks, arriving in England on the 21st. In England, the Battalion was absorbed into the 9th Reserve Battalion. Hodgson was later transferred to E Battery, 2nd Canadian Motorized Machine Gun Brigade and served in the French theatre. Le Quesnel is a village and commune in the Department of the Somme, twenty-five kilometres south-east of Amiens. During the First World War, Le Quesnel had been for sometime in British hands but was captured by the Germans on March 27, 1918. However, it was re-taken the following August 9th by the 75th Canadian Infantry Battalion.
