Algeria, French Protectorate. An Commemorative Table Medal
In bronze, cornucopia hallmarked and marked "BRONZE" on the edge, obverse illustrating a man in robes sitting upon an eagle in flight, surrounded by inscriptions in Arabic and date marked "1313" (1895) in Eastern Arabic numerals, reverse illustrating a scene with thirteen figures with a column in the background, five of which appear on a raised platform of stone, including a king sitting upon a throne, a man behind him holding a spear, another at the far left holding a plate, along with two others, eight others appear at the right, including an unarmed man with his arms pinned behind him and sitting at the foot of the throne before the platform of stone, with two other figures, one bearing a flag and the other holding a sword in his right hand behind the unarmed man, with five others in the right background, measuring 89.7 mm in diameter, edge nick, near extremely fine. The table medal is housed in a balsa wood box, with one of the end panels coming away from the body of the box, measuring 107.5 mm (w) x 111 mm (h) x 26.3 mm (d), box fair.
