(Nishan al-Nil). Instituted 1915 by Sultan Husain Kamil. In silver, consisting of ten multifaceted rays, with gilt radiating from centre medallion, obverse a white enameled five armed star with silver gilt centre, reverse Arabic silver hallmark for 800 silver content, star also marked with Arabic date letter (1951-53) """"ر"""", elongated crowned suspension in Gold, Gold hallmark for Arabic numeral 18 (denoting 750 Gold content or 18ct) on integral ring as well as large sash ring, measuring 63.2 mm (w) x 95 mm (h - inclusive of suspension adorned by crown), on original full length sash, extremely fine. Accompanied by large star of the order, in silver, consisting of ten multifaceted rays with gilt radiating from centre star, a large five armed white enameled crowned star, affixed by single screw post, reverse with dual stays and pin assembly, hallmarked on 11 o'clock arm with Arabic silver hallmark for 800 silver content, star also marked with Arabic date letter (1951-53) """"ر"""", measuring 93 mm (w) x 93 mm (h), extremely fine.

Footnote: The Order of the Nile was instituted in 1915 by Sultan Hussein Kamel, to reward persons, military or civilian, who had rendered useful service to Egypt. It was reconstituted under the Arab Republic of Egypt on June 18, 1953, but without the crown. In the Kingdom of Egypt, the Order of the Nile ranked beneath the Order of Ismail.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
