(Nishan al-Nil). Instituted in 1915. Reconstituted in 1953. Badge: insignia in silver gilt with blue enamels, mounted to a silver five-pointed star base, Cairo assay and silver standard marked on the reverse cartouche, measuring 61.5 mm (w) x 91.5 mm (h) inclusive of its lotus leaves suspension, intact enamels, on its full-length sash incorporating a decorative moiré pattern; and Breast Star: insignia in silver gilt with blue enamels, mounted to a silver five-pointed star base, Cairo assay and silver standard marked on the pin, measuring 80.7 mm (w) x 81.3 mm (h), vertical pinback, catch bent back, one of two stays intact. Near extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, wooded-framed on both the lid and base, with a steel blue cloth fabric exterior, the bottom covered in a mid-tine blue cloth, the lid bearing the name of the order, the inside of the lid lined in white satin and padded, with a foil maker's label inscribed in English and Arabic "MAISON TEWFIK BICHAY CAIRO", raised platform with recessed and slotted medal beds in white velvet, manufacturer's card glued in place in the base, latch closure, measuring 138 mm (w) x 286 mm (l) x 56.5 mm (h), extensive wear and soiling evident on the exterior, soiling on the white satin inside lid and the white velvet platform housing the medal beds, peeling back of the white satin fabric overlying the hinged area, fair.

Footnote: The Order of the Nile was instituted in 1915 when Egypt was a Kingdom. It was reconstituted on June 18, 1953, when Egypt became a Republic.
