Hardshelled, maroon cloth exterior, marked in gold-coloured ink "ORDER OF THE LION OF MALAWI" and "5TH CLASS", along with being trimmed with an ornate design along all four edges on the lid, maker marked "SPINK & SON LTD. LONDON" on the inside lid, slotted maroon velvet medal bed, measuring 134 mm in width x 174 mm in length x 34.5 mm in depth, very light soiling evident on the exterior, gilt wear on the latch, case better than very fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Lion of Malawi was instituted in 1967 and discontinued in 2008, however recipients may continue to wear the insignia. It was awarded for distinguished and outstanding services to the people of Malawi, in five grades: Grand Commander, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Member, plus a Medal.
