Morocco. An Order of Ouissam Alaouite, III Class Commander, by Arthus Bertrand, c.1920
Instituted in 1913. Silver with red, white and green enamels, hallmarked with a boar's head and maker marked "A.B. & Co" (Arthus Bertrand) on the loop, ball finials on the star points, measuring 58.2 mm (w) x 83.8 mm (h) inclusive of its wreath and ball suspension, chipping and crazing evident in the red enamels on the star points on both sides, on its original full-length neck ribbon, better than very fine.
Footnote: The Order of Ouissam Alaouite (AKA Sharifian Order of Al-Alaoui) is a military decoration of Morocco which is bestowed by the King of Morocco upon those civilians and military officers who have displayed heroism in combat or have contributed meritorious service to the Moroccan state. The decoration was established on January 11, 1913 in replacement of the Order of Ouissam Hafidien. It is awarded in five classes: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight.
