Morocco. An Order of Ouissam Alaouite, III Class Commander, c.1945 by Arthus Bertrand
(Sharifian Order of Al-Alaoui). Instituted January 11, 1913. Type II (1934-1954). A five-point star in silver gilt with white and red enamel arms and green enamel flora in each quadrant, obverse center medallion bears Arabic inscription (GOD IS GREAT AND MOHAMMED IS HIS PROPHET) on a red enamel field, reverse medallion in silver gilt with a Chieftain’s parasol (a symbol of power and authority in Morocco) in red enamel, suspended from a wreath, hallmarked with a boar's head (denoting French manufacture of 900 silver, post 1838) and maker marked "A.B. & Co" (Arthus Bertrand) on the reverse of the loop, French silver swan hallmark (punch mark for pieces made from silver, imported from countries without trading contract to France since 1893) and a second boar’s head on the obverse integral suspension loop, measuring 58mm (w) x 84.5mm (h) inclusive of its wreath and laterally-pierced ball suspension, on originally neck ribbon, chipping evident in the red enamel tips of the obverse and reverse arms, overall very fine condition.
