Rhodesia, Republic: Prison Service Medal, Type II without Dates (in cupro-nickel, recipient engraved "9205 WDR. E. MERESI" on the edge, measuring 36.2 mm in diameter, original ribbon); and Zimbabwe, Republic: Zimbabwe Independence Medal 1980, Bronze Grade (in bronze gilt, measuring 38.5 mm (w) x 43.5 mm (h), original ribbon). Together, very fine.
Footnote: The Rhodesia Prison Service Medal was issued in two types, with the first specifically covering the period immediately after UDI (Unilateral Decoration of Independence), 1965-1968. While the obverse with the head of Cecil John Rhodes remained the same, the obverse of the earlier one carried a sheathed sword encircled with the words "For Service 1965-1968", while the second edition carries the words "For Service", the years left off. The name of the recipient is etched on the rim. The Zimbabwe Independence Medal was awarded to any person or group or category of people nominated by the Prime Minister, in two classes: silver and bronze.
