Instituted in 1965. In silver gilt, measuring 32.2 mm in diameter, very light contact, original ribbon with pinback, extremely fine.
Footnote: The General Service Medal was instituted in 1965, to be awarded to British forces on secondment to the Royal Sierra Leone Military Forces and was awarded for service in Sierra Leone and adjacent countries, provided that their service had not been acknowledged by any other General Service Medal. The medal is rare, as determined by the conditions of award and the small number of military involved.
