A Rare South African First War City of Johannesburg Medal 1914-1919
South Africa; Bronze, obverse illustrating an Army soldier and a Navy sailor standing on either side of a coat-of-arms, inscribed "1914" above "1919" above the arms, inscribed "REG 14/1919" below the arms, surrounded by the inscription "TO COMMEMORATE THE CONCLUSION OF THE GREAT WAR" and inscribed "PEACE WITH HONOUR" at the bottom, reverse illustrating the City of Johannesburg coat-of-arms at the junction of an open-ended wreath of laurel leaves, inscribed "28th JUNE 1919 JOHANNESBURG" with a ribbon banner bearing the city's motto "FORTITER ET RECTE" (Strong and Straight) above, 32 mm, near mint.
