A 1914-15 Star to the 2nd Canadian Infantry Battalion - (8298 PTE J. ABBOTT. 2/CAN: INF.). Naming is officially impressed. Original ribbon, extremely fine. Accompanied by copies of his Attestation Paper and Service Records. Footnote: John Abbott was born in London, England on November 9, 1892. He signed his Attestation Paper on September 23, 1914 at Valcartier, Quebec, stating thae he was not married, that he had no previous military service and that his trade was that of Butcher. The Battalion was raised in Eastern Ontario with mobilization headquarters at Camp Valcartier, Quebec under the authority of P.C.O. 2067, August 6, 1914. The Battalion sailed October 3, 1914 with a strength of 45 officers and 1,098 other ranks, including Abbott, under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel D. Watson. The Battalion served in France and Belgium with the 1st Infantry Brigade, 1st Canadian Division. Abbott was with the 2nd Battalion on August 8, 1916 when he was admitted to No. 1 Canadian Field Ambulance, being discahrged four days later. He returned to England on March 25, 1919 after spending four and half years in the European theatre. He was struck off strength in the British Isles upon discharge, on May 5.
