South Africa, Memorial Plaque, bronze cross and label engraved  DIED ON SERVICE - WORLD WAR / M20220 PTE. G.R. VAUGHAN / I.M.C. / IN OORLOGSDIENS GESTERF-WERELDOORLOG  with 1939 and 1945 running vertically on each edge respectively, mounted on rectangular wooden plaque with four threaded pins, one missing nut, 105x133.5mm, edges of plaque chipped and worn, very fine condition.

 

Footnote: G.R Vaughan was born around 1899, and was 42 when he died on service on September 8, 1941. Pte Vaughan was an Indian man who served the Indian and Malay Corps, South African Force, Indian Army during the war. The Indian and Malay Corps was a part of the Non-European Army Services which included the Cape Corps and the Native Labour Corps.
