A mint and extremely desirable SS Streifendienst gorget crafted out of nickel-silver with a frosted silver center medallion on the obverse bearing SS runes on a black painted surface . The reverse features a dark navy wool backer, with an attachment loop for the chain, a clip marked “RZM 140 SS” (likely M5/140 - Wilhelm Schröder & Co. Lüdenscheid”) and a receiver for the chain. The gorget measures 208 mm x 98 mm, and the chain measures 600 mm; in mint and unworn condition with only minor natural oxidation on the center medallion from age.
Footnote: The purpose of the SS Steifendiest patrol units was to ensure that SS behaved themselves, were in proper uniform, and were not seen in the streets in their uniforms after midnight. Patrols consisted of two-three men under the command of a senior non-commissioned officer.
