Germany, Luftwaffe. An Early German NSFK Pilot's Crash Helmet

This is a nice example of a third reich period German NSFK - The National Socialist Flyers Corps (Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps; NSFK) Pilot's helmet, the exterior constructed of black leather, with leather bound padding around the circumference of the helmet, as well as on the crown of the helmet in a cross formation, effectively splitting the helmet into four sections. Each “section” of the helmet features four blackened metal (magnetic) breather holes, for a total of sixteen breather holes, to ensure proper air circulation. Towards the front of the helmet is a leather visor, with a blackened upper, and a natural underside. Towards the sides and rear are two pieces of black leather, sewn together to form a skirt for ear and neck protection. The sides of the skirt both feature small cutouts for the ears, as well as a flap to cover them. The flap features a female-end button-clasp that clips into either a male-ended button clasp to secure the ear opening shut, or into a different one, to secure it open. This skirt also functions as the strap, with a total of four button-clasps for size adjustment. The interior of this helmet is heavily padded with a black cotton liner, also featuring a leather sweatband for additional padding. The helmet is unmarked, and measures approximately 280 mm x 205 mm. It appears to be be gently worn, with typical signs of period wear, but without obvious damage, such as rips or tears. It is slightly dusty from storage, but is otherwise well preserved. In overall better than very fine condition.
