A grouping of two first war German medals and awards, consisting of
1) An “Eisernes Kreuz 1914 2. Klasse”; white metal cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a white metal ribbed border; on loop for suspension; with its period original ribbon;the obverse with a raised central “W”, with the re-institution date “1914” in raised numbering on the lower arm, and the royal crown on the upper arm; the reverse with a central oak-leaf branch consisting of three oak leaves, with the original institution date “1813” in raised numbers on the lower arm, a raised Prussian crown on the upper arm, with “FW” in equally raised lettering directly below: measuring 42.58 mm x 42.54 mm; weighing 18.2 grams.
2) A 1914 Brunswick War Merit Cross Second Class; bronze cross pattée; the obverse with the letters “EA” positioned centrally (for Duke Ernst August), with raised oak leaves on both sideways arms, a raised Brunswick royal crown on the upper arm, and the date “1914” in raised lettering on the lower arm; the reverse inscribed “Für Verdienst im Kriege” (For Merit in War); on a loop for suspension; period original ribbon; measuring 30.07 mm x 30.04 mm; weighing 11.3 grams. Accompanied with its matching medal ribbon bar; metal core (magnetic); horizontal pinback; measuring 27 mm x 18 mm; overall very fine condition.
