An Order of King Zvonimir 2nd Class with Swords to Hans Stengel with Croatian Award Document, German Letter of Receipt and Brochure; This is a complete grouping of an Order of King Zvonimir Second Class with Swords, with the Award Document in Croatian, a German Letter Receipt, and a Croatian Awards Brochure. The Order of King Zvonimir Second Class with Swords (Military Class); two piece construction; in gilded bronze and white enamels; maker marked “Braca Knaus, Zagreb” on reverse; measuring 51.32 mm x 50.82 mm; weighing 30.7 grams; good quality enamels with some chipping on the lower arm on the obverse as well as on the reverse; very fine condition. With a well preserved award document for an presented to Major-Kommandeur Hans Stengel of the II Artillery Regiment 264. It is dated June 15, 1944 and was awarded “in recognition of conscientious service against the rebels”. It features the facsimile of the vice admiral of the armed forces, as well as the signature of the notary of the Order of King Zvonimir. The document measures 369 mm x 285 mm and is overall well preserved with two horizontal folds, wear marks, and lightly frayed edges. With a German letter of receipt to Major Hans Stengel, dated January 20, 1945, stating “Attached is the Order of the King Zvonimir II Class awarded to you by the Order Office of the Croatian State with congratulations to you for the award received. This letter counts as a confirmation of receipt”. It features the signature of the Hauptmann as well as a short list of contents, being 1 envelope containing; 1 order, 1 award certificate, 1 brochure. The document measures 298 mm x 207 mm, with multiple folds and moderate creasing. With a Brochure of the awards of the Independent State of Croatia, containing photographs of the orders, medals, awards, and decorations of Croatia with a brief history for each. The brochure measures 254 mm x 291 mm with multiple folds and light rips from repeated folding. Overall near extremely fine condition.

Footnote: The order of the Crown of King Zvonimir was an order awarded by the Independent State of Croatia, and was conferred as a “visible sign of decoration for merits done, in peace or in war, for Croatian People and the Independent State of Croatia”. It was established by Ante Pavelic on May 15, 1941
