(Order of Chia-Ho (嘉禾). Instituted 1912. 1912-1929 Issue. An enameled white eight pointed star in silver gilt, featuring gilded smaller rays between the arms, surmounted by a symbol of the Thunder Cloud and loop suspension, obverse centre with a tied Golden Grain symbol in natural enamels, on an enameled white background, surrounded by a black enamel border with “eyes” displaying the colors of the Republic, reverse with an enameled red background lettering by Chinese characters, measuring 64.00 mm (w) x 81.58 mm (h - inclusive of suspension), loop marked by Chinese maker’s mark, with enamel loss to centre obverse and heat damage to reverse of 11 o'clock ray, near very fine.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
