Japan, Empire. A 1904-1905 Russo-Japanese War Medal, Boxed with Award Document
(日露戦争勲章 / Nichirosensō kunshō). Instituted in 1906. Medal in bronze gilt, measuring 30.5 mm in diameter, exhibiting scattered gilt wear, on its original ribbon with hook and eye, near extremely fine. In its balsa wood box of issue, the end panel officially stamped in red ink with a cherry blossom, gilt characters on the lid and marked on the white satin lined inside lid, both in gold-coloured ink, medal bed in navy blue felt, the box measuring 57.5 mm in height x 117.5 mm in width x 19 mm in depth; accompanied by its Award Document, printed in black and red inks, on a thin off-white paper stock, faded to a sepia-toned look, illustrating the Imperial Seal of Japan in the centre along the top edge and framed within a floral wreath, the 1904-1905 Russo-Japanese War Medal in the centre along the bottom edge and framed within a trophy of arms, measuring 460 mm in width x 365 mm in height, rolled, exhibiting creasing. Box and Award Document also near extremely fine.
