(瑞宝章). Instituted in 1888 by Emperor Meiji. 1888-2003 issue. A pleasing enameled white eight-armed cross in silver, each arm featuring cluster of five silver-framed rays of different sizes, the obverse centre in silver gilt exhibiting a legendary silver Japanese symbol of Yata Mirror, with nicely enameled blue background, surrounded by 16 connected red cabochon glasses representing the legendary Yasakani jewels, plain reverse with principal pin assembly flanked by two stays, as well as central Order’s Japanese characters, measuring 75.32 mm (w) x 74.88 mm (h), presenting tarnished silver, with cracks on enamels, very fine condition.
