(瑞宝章). Instituted in 1888 by Emperor Meiji. 1888-2003 issue. Constructed of silver, a fine enameled white four-armed cross, featuring clusters of five silver-framed rays in each arm, the obverse exhibiting a central silver Yata Mirror, legendary Japanese symbol of purity, on an enameled deep blue background, surrounded by 16 connected red cabochon glasses of different sizes, representing the legendary Yasakani jewels, plain reverse nicely engraved by Order’s Japanese characters, measuring 37.74 mm (w) x 43.32 mm (h - inclusive of ball suspension), light contact, suspended by original triangular class ribbon with hook and eye, extremely fine condition.
