Japan. A Second World War Aviation Excellence Badge, with Case, c. 1941
In Silver, an eight point star with three rays along bordering each arm, the obverse presents a super imposed propeller reaching from 3 o’clock to 9 o’clock, with a silver gilt bird with outstretched wings sitting atop the propeller nose at 12 o’clock, the reverse presents a single pin with Japanese script on the base and a small mark on the 6 o’clock arm, measures 46.50m (w) x 42.05mm (h), weighs 40.7grams, light oxidation, in very fine condition. Contained in its hardshell case of issue, balsa wood frame, black lacquer finish, gilt characters on the lid, recessed blue velvet medal bed, light contact in the black lacquer finish, light soiling and wear evident on the lining of the inside lid, case near extremely fine.
