Japan; Neck Badge: silver with white, green and violet enamels, centre red glass cabochon, 55.5 mm (w) x 82.5 mm (h) inclusive of its Paulonia flowers suspension, on its original full-length neck ribbon with flip clip closure, chipping evident in the white enamels on the top ray and in the violet enamels on one flower on the right cluster on the reverse, crazing evident in the white enamels on three rays on the obverse; and Breast Star: silver gilt with white, green and violet enamels, centre red glass cabochon, 90.5 mm (w) x 89.5 mm (h), vertical pinback flanked by dual prongs, intact enamels. Better than very fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, balsa wood frame, black lacquer finish, gilt Paulonia flower and characters on the lid, raised platform with recessed and slotted medal beds, light contact on the exterior, case near extremely fine.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
