(旭日章 Kyokujitsu-shō). Instituted in 1875 by Emperor Meiji of Japan. Of foreign manufacture, a Grand Cordon badge of silver gilt, featuring a white enamelled eight point star with clusters of three intermediate rays with cleft ends, obverse medallion presents a beautiful red glass cabochon, reverse mirrors the obverse, suspended from a green and purple imperial Paulownia flower, measures 75.7mm (w) x 117.2mm (h – inclusive of paulownia flower suspension and integral ball), weighs 75.3 grams, light wear to enamels, small flakes in green enamel, in extremely fine condition.
Accompanied by the full-length sash of the order with rosette.
