Japan, Imperial. An Imperial Japanese Army Officer’s M38 Visor Cap
An Imperial Japanese officer’s visor cap, constructed of olive-drab wool twill with a bright red wool cap band. The crown of the cap is trimmed with a band of red piping, and is flanked on each sides by dual ventilation holes reinforced with magnetic metal eyelets. The centre of the cap bears a five-pointed star, constructed of gilded bronze, measuring 23 mm (w) x 23 mm (h) and affixed with dual reverse attachment prongs. The cap is flanked by bronzed magnetic metal buttons, bearing raised cherry blossoms, holding in palace a black leather chinstrap which rests upon the visor. The visor itself is constructed of black lacquered vulcanfibre and is securely set into the body of the cap with a row of machine stitching. The interior of the cap features a 30 mm-wide sweatband constructed of black lacquered ribbon, with the interior being completed by a black silk liner. The interior of the body features a cardboard reinforcement, helping to maintain the structural integrity of the cap. It is unmarked and measures approximately 230 mm (w) x 240 mm (l) x 130 mm (h). Sporadic patches of mothing and other material fatigue are evident, and the body of the cap has been compressed. It is in an overall near very fine condition.
