(무공훈장). Instituted October 18, 1950. Type I (1950-1963 Issue). A silver star composed of four red enamel arms with a white and green laurel wreath between each quadrant, and three silver rays behind the wreath in each quadrant stemming from the central medallion, which presents a red enamel field with a gilt sword and crossed weapons, surrounded in a white enamel surround with decorative gilt S designs and red circles at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, reverse presents Hangul script and “1336”, measures 42.75mm (w) x 42.75mm (h), worn on its original ribbon with second grade star device, brooch pinback assembly, enamels intact, dark patina, ribbon shows light wear, overall near extremely fine condition. Accompanied by a single ribbon bar presenting the Korean Flag emblem on the obverse, measures 35.75mm (w) x 10.52mm (l), very fine condition. Contained in a blue hard shell case of issue composed of pressed board, interior presents a dark blue velvet medal bed with silk liner on the lid, inscribed with Hangul script, measures 86mm (w) x 161mm (l) x 24mm (d), damage to the hinge covering as silk has pulled away from left half of base, light wear to corners of exterior, knock to left side of case base, overall fine condition.
Footnote: This Order is South Korea's highest military honour. It is conferred upon South Korean and Allied military personnel in recognition of gallantry and exceptional meritorious service during combat or national emergencies. This Order was amended in 1963, 1967, and in 1973.
