Four-piece construction, in sterling silver gilt with red and white enamels, Singapore-made, marked "STERLING" on the reverse, measuring 51.5 mm (w) x 51 mm (h), intact enamels, very light contact, kris (dagger) within a large circle with its blade pointing downward on its original ribbon with pinback, extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, navy blue thatched-look exterior, wooden-framed, the lid with the image of the order in gold-coloured ink, inside lid in white satin, padded and maker marked "H. Sena Ltd. / JEWELLERS / SINGAPORE & PENANG", base with a recessed and slotted medal bed in white felt, measuring 97 mm (w) x 147 mm (h) x 33 mm (d), light soiling evident on the white satin on the inside lid and in the white felt in the medal bed, case better than very fine.
Footnote: The Most Distinguished Order of the Defender of the Realm was instituted on August 21, 1958 by King 'Abdu'l Rahman. It is awarded for meritorious service to the State, in five grades: Knight Grand Commander, Knight Commander, Commander, Officer and Member, in addition to a Medal, with recipients entitled to use the post-nominal letters: SMN, PMN, JMN, KMN and AMN, respectively. There is no limit to the number of persons that can be awarded the IV Class Officer version, which can also be conferred on foreign citizens as an honourary award. It does not carry any title.
