Instituted March 20 1938 by Prince Teh Wang. A I Class decoration, in silver gilt, a pison cross with red enamelled arms, between each arm sits two curved and one straight emblem representing a sword with its guards, the obverse medallion presents a profile of Ghengis Khan, the reverse bears two vertical pins with Mongolian inscription, measures 46.85mm (w) x 47.20mm (h), weighs 28.7 grams, enamels intact, minimal wear, in extremely fine condition.
Contained in its original case of issue, featuring a blue velvet recessed medalbed with plain lid, the exterior lid with a Mongolian inscription, measures 82mm (w) x 82mm (l) x 21.5mm (d), light scuffing, external marks, two knocks to the reinforced edge of the interior, overall a rare case in near very fine condition.
Footnote: The Military Merit Decoration was created on March 20, 1938 by Prince Teh Wang (Temujin) as the main military merit award (roughly comparable to the Japanese Order of the Golden Kite) of the puppet "free" government of Inner Mongolia, which was established by the Japanese in those parts of Mongolia under their occupation (Suiyan, Chahar, and Ninghsia) after their occupation of Manchuria/Manchuguo. It was awarded in three classes: I Class, II Class and III Class, all of which are very rare.
