Of high quality British manufacture, in silver gilt consisting of a finely enameled green, red and orange flower rows, with obverse centre exhibiting a royal White Elephant with enameled details, reverse depicting typical of this order Thai characters, suspended by a very detailed Thai crown in silver gilt, with maker’s mark of J. W. BENSON, LONDON, one of the most active jewellers in the United Kingdom, with ring suspension marked with asterix, measuring 32.21 mm (w) x 58.51 mm (h - inclusive of suspension), presenting minor toned silver on the suspension and light enamel wear, accompanied by original breast ribbon, extremely fine.
Footnote: It was established in 1861 by King Rama IV of the Kingdom of Siam. It is regularly awarded to government officials for each five years of service, making it Thailand's most-awarded order.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
