Austria, Empire. An Emperor Franz Joseph I 60th Jubilee Pocket Watch 1848-1908
Non-functional, silver casing, the front cover with a Gold inlay bearing the engraved bust of Emperor Franz Joseph I, the bust surrounded by the Latin inscription "FRANCISCVS JOSEPHVS I" (Franz Joseph I) and dated "1848-1908" below, all within a wreath composed of branches of laurel leaves and oak leaves with acorns, back cover illustrating the Emperor standing in front of a viewing facade, his right hand pointing a handgun out of a portal, with three other individuals immediately to the right, the scene framed by swirls and laurel leaves. The face of the watch has gold-coloured minute and hour hands, the former of which has come away from its central pivot position and floats freely, with an inset featuring a second clock with its hand in black, the hour positions on the face in Roman numerals with the IV, V and VI (4,5,6) positions either partially obscured or totally obscured, with gradations on the perimeter, the minute positions in black. The inside back cover exhibits a partial production mark and numbered "693102", the facing cover over the works maker marked "ANCRE LEVÉES VISIBLES / PHILADELPHIA 1876 / REMONTOIR / 15 Rubis / Qualité Supérieure" above the images of nine previous awarded show medals, the watch itself measuring 52.2 mm in width x 65 mm in height inclusive of its non-functioning crown x 11.5 mm in depth.
