(Orden der Eisernen Krone, Ordenszeichen II. Klasse). 1914-1918 Issue. In bronze gilt, with red, green, white, blue, and black enamels; consisting of a double headed eagle with privately added crossed silver swords above their heads, with a shield on the chest of the eagle surrounded by a privately added “lesser grade” war decoration in green enameling, consisting of blue enamels and the letter “F”, with a crown in its talons and multicolored enamels, the reverse of the eagle with a second shield, dated “1815” within a bed of blue enamels, all topped by a hollow and partially enameled swivel crown; marked “A.E. Köchert, Wien” along with a five-pointed star denoting the award is constructed of bronze; with a correct replacement ribbon with light glue remains; measuring 36.45 mm (w) x 66.42 mm (h); weighing 27.1 grams, in overall extremely fine condition.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
